I really want a spreader bar
My spreader bar might be the first toy I ever made.
Home Depot sells wooden dowel rods… they’ll cut them for you if you don’t want one the width of a queen-sized bed. (Hint: Decide the width you want before you get there so you aren’t standing in the aisles spreading your legs and saying “hmm.. that’ll do!”) While you’re there, buy two eye hooks that screw into place.
Drill a hole into each end of the rod. Use a drill bit just large enough for the eye-hooks’ shaft so you’ve made room for the shaft but not the threads on the shaft. Otherwise it’s not only really hard to screw in the eye hooks straight, much less at all, but doing so would also probably split the wood.
Done! You could paint or stain it, but that easily doubles or triples the time & effort. If it comes to it, just go out and buy another dowel rod. They’re cheap!
Or… If you want a metal bar, here’s a great DIY post on it.
